O pensamento que se restringe a enxergar o que se deseja não é apenas uma espécie de auto-engano, mas é também uma deliciosa maneira de aniquilar nossa capacidade de analisar com precisão qualquer situação.
Independentemente disso, nós amamos profundamente assim proceder… E isso ocorre em abundância e em todas as áreas. Vai desde a forma como lidamos com problemas de saúde; até nossa maior motivação em adquirir um bilhete de loteria – que se resume a comprar o direito de sonhar com o prêmio acumulado.
Durante períodos eleitorais esse padrão de auto-engano e incapacidade se agrava drasticamente. Portanto, torna-se intrigante e trágico observar como tendemos a tanto negligenciar a verdade nua e crua, como a abraçar apenas fragmentos dos fatos que nos fazem sentir bem.
Isso me lembra Voltaire, que proclamou: “Ilusão é o primeiro de todos os prazeres.”
Que tal de vez em quando, só pra variar, a gente parar de massagear o nosso ego e tentar provar que as nossas mais sólidas convicções estão equivocadas?!!?

Wishful thinking is not only a sort of fool’s paradise, but it is also a delightful way to annihilate our capacity to accurately analyze any situation.
Regardless, we deeply love doing so… It happens abundantly and across the board. It goes from the way we handle health issues; to our main motivation of buying a lottery ticket—which boils down to purchasing the right to daydream with the jackpot.
During political cycles this pattern of self-deception and incapacity dramatically exacerbates—both here and elsewhere. Thus, it becomes intriguing and tragic to observe how we tend both to overlook the unvarnished truth, and to embrace only the portions of facts the make us feel good. It reminds me Voltaire, who proclaimed: “Illusion is the first of all pleasures.”
What about from time to time, just for a change, we quit pleasing our ego and try to prove us wrong?!!?
